Dancing Atoms was written in 2012 for a project that marked my first — albeit not entirely successful — foray into EDM. I uploaded it to VK and immediately received feedback that I had finally gotten it right. However, the project was soon abandoned.
Two years later, Dancing Atoms became the soundtrack for the first level of my first attempt at game development in Unity. The game was eventually released as a Windows app and on VK; a community was created for it, where the soundtrack was posted under the name Sёrgie (my ICQ nickname since 2007).
Now, fourteen years after writing it, I’m releasing music under this name; Dancing Atoms fits the style perfectly, so September 1st — the Day of Knowledge — felt like the right time for its debut.
Fun fact: I originally wanted to create the cover art in Unity, featuring an animation of spheres as a nod to the track’s history. However, renewing the license required updating Unity Hub, which then started updating Unity itself, and the new version is incompatible with my Windows setup.
After three days of battling updates, I finally gave up and just drew it in a 2D graphics editor.
