The Cartoon Leader is the latest from hard alt rock band Deja Who. Summoning grunge greats and an experimental alternative new sound, the record slowly but surely pushes the envelope with melodious singing and heavy guitars while the whole thing feels like a release of apprehension. “Rebirth” wavers between a light vocal and bellowing guitars while it navigates pleasantly to the ear. “Back Off” is an expansively relatable song driven by an anxious aggression and a hard push. “Let It Go” is far more riff oriented with pounding drums. The album itself seems like a concept record where songs make sense when put together. The Cartoon Leader holds nothing back in terms of emotion and that makes for good music in most cases.
